Today I’m grateful that:

  • My Dad has finally discovered Family Guy. Hearing his re-cap of the episode “Hell Comes to Quahog” was quite entertaining, especially given that it was in front of my typically more P.C. mother who may or may not have been feeling the effects of morphine during my Dad’s very animated re-cap.
  • My Mom got infused with some morphine to help with her pain. Drugs are good. Those ones, anyway.
  • The torrential downpours this afternoon drove most of the humidity out of the air, making for a beautiful night to kill time at the beach. Bummed that I was killing time because Dana’s flight was delayed due to said storms … but happy I will be seeing her in approximately an hour!

Today I’m grateful that:

  • The weather was perfect for celebrating my parents’ 40th anniversary with a dinner on the deck overlooking the bay. Granted, that wasn’t the original plan, but sometimes where you end up is better than where you thought you should go.

Today I’m grateful that:

  • My mother was born on this date 66 years ago. She probably wouldn’t like that I called out that she’s 66 years old, but since she looks at computers the way most people look at slugs or taxes, I think I’m safe.

Today I’m grateful for:

  • My parents were able to drive me to the doctor’s office, with Chad unable to leave work and myself unable to drive myself due to … well, the whole reason I was going to the doctor’s, a lovely stomach virus keeping me from eating or drinking anything for three days!
  • Everyone at the Urgent Care facility in Waltham for pumping me full of fluids, anti-nausea and pain meds, and doing it all with sympathetic and patient smiles on their face. It makes a difference!
  • Whatever little machine that warms the blankets in the Urgent Care facility — that thing is magical! I would like one for my home.

Today I’m grateful that:

  • My mother has put up with me for 34 years. It hasn’t always been easy. I just hope that the good times have outweighed the bad, and that she knows how much I appreciate her.
  • I’ve been lucky to have two grandmothers with such a long and positive influence in my life. I cherish this more and more as we all become older.
  • The Bruins, Celtics, and Red Sox provided an exciting end to Mother’s Day. No sports fan in Boston can complain today! Here’s just one of the moments.
